Every child deserves a strong start.
Our back to school event supports underserved Las Vegas families with new shoes, haircuts, girls’ hairstyling, and school supplies, while connecting parents to valuable resources and helping students explore future career opportunities and pathways to success.
On August 9, 2026, The Blade Barber Lounge stopped taking paying clients and opened the whole shop instead. The 888 Fresh Start Experience, hosted by the 888 Foundation alongside the Phoenix Foundation of Nevada, turned the room on South Eastern Avenue into a back to school staging ground for Las Vegas families.
Every chair ran all day. By the time the clippers went quiet the barbers had given 80 free haircuts, and 120 sneakers and backpacks had gone out the door. Kids picked whatever cut they wanted, from skin fades and lineups to full restyles, and girls got wash and styling in the same room. When they came out of the chair they picked up a box of brand new Converse sneakers in their size and a backpack loaded with supplies. Nobody was handed leftovers, and nobody was rushed. That is the part that matters, and it is why the shop does this every year rather than writing a cheque.
While the clippers ran, parents worked the resource table and students talked with the barbers about the trade itself, what licensing takes and what a career behind the chair actually looks like. A haircut is the reason a kid walks in. Confidence on the first day of school, and a look at what is possible after it, is the reason we open the door.
